Ending Sequence
Edge was not riding the dragon anymore. He found himself floating freely in the data stream, not far from the huge black symbol that had represented the Heresy Program in Sestren’s memories. The Heresy Program explained to him that the will of the Ancients lay only with it now; the Sestren AI was truly gone.
The Heresy Program also revealed to Edge that it was not the “Divine Visitor” that Gash had believed it to be, the saviour that he had sought for so long. In truth, the Divine Visitor was the entity that dwelled inside Edge, which had guided him on every step of his endless journey: the white light that revived him at the excavation site; the “one from the outside world”; you, the player.
And now the Heresy Program’s task was completed; now it waited only for the Divine Visitor to destroy it, as it desired. This would end the Ancients’ legacy, and with their influence on the world gone the Towers would sleep forever, and the world would at last be free. It wanted to create, as it said, a new beginning…
The will of the Ancients was overthrown at last.
