Chapter 2
Dash closed the diary. Yes, he could remember what happened next. He could remember how they were attacked. He could remember when he first saw Roc’s amazing arrows of light. As Dash reopened the diary and presumed to read, he felt as if he were re-living the moment.

Incredible! I cannot believe what I have just witnessed! Minutes ago, we encountered a swarm of beasts of the South Continent coast. Although I have only visited these waters once before, in my youth, I recognized them as larvae rays, a bird-like insect, with sharp rows of serrated nail-like jaws. I can recall old fisherman tales in which they sunk fishing boats, after smelling the aroma of fish. They were given the nickname “Fish Sinkers” because of this.
When we tried to fly low to hopefully evade their sight and stay clear of their territory, they merely followed us and attacked. I did my best to push them off, but to no avail. One of them snapped at me and narrowly missed. Roc swooped higher and was able to dodge them momentarily, but the beasts persevered.
Then the most amazing thing happened. Something I once believed to be only in fairy tales. Roc opened his mouth and multiple arrows of light were emitted from it! The heat from the arrows tore through the monster’s shells and flesh like paper. Frightened, the rest of the monster’s attempted escape, but Roc wouldn’t let them go. He fired even more arrows of light, and the beasts were no longer a threat to us.
I didn’t notice this until now, but it appears one of the creatures has wounded Roc, and he seems to be gradually pulled down by it. There is a small gash on his right wing and it won’t stop bleeding. I have been applying pressure to this wound continuously, but I fear that an artery may have been severed in combat. I can only hope that the wound is minor, and that we reach our destination soon, as the fog grows thicker.
Yes, the arrows of light had saved them that day, and it would not be the last time that they would be saved by them, and although they were Roc’s primary weapon, Dash new that he had an inner power stronger than all of Roc’s spectacular strengths. Dash turned the page and continued to read the fragile diary.

It is the third day since I was saved from death by this dragon, and our situation seems to be getting worse. I (or Roc for that matter) have not had any food or fresh water since we set out for sea (although I am not sure if dragons need to eat and drink). I am beginning to hallucinate. I see things, sometimes horrible monsters that haunted my dreams as a child. Other times, I see Imperial ships in the distance, only to find out that they are not real.
Roc has not stopped for anything, and is probably exhausted, but he is showing no sign of tire whatsoever. The gash on his wing has stopped bleeding finally, yet it still seems to be a detriment for him. We have not, however, encountered any monsters since we were attacked, and even though this may appear to be a good thing, the south continent is usually flooded with beasts. The larvae rays that attacked us earlier were headed in the opposite direction than us, and animals in the South Continent aren’t known to migrate, meaning that one of the only reasons they would be heading that way is that they were scared off for some reason.
Why didn’t I realize this, before!? Roc could quite possibly be taking me to see whatever scared off those monsters! This is all starting to make sense now. What the…?
Yes! The fog is starting to get lighter! We have reached land at last! Now we can hopefully get some food and water! I hope this is not another hallucination. I have never been happier to see dry land, even if it is barren desert, like that of this wretched continent!
