In the Orta version of Panzer Dragoon Zwei's ending cinematic, we catch a glimpse of Azel. The question is: was this a deleted scene or something that was added later?
When Lagi and Lundi go their separate ways, the dragon merges with his mind and Lundi sees into the future.
We see a dragon that resembles the Arm Wing approaching what seems to be the Tower of Uru in a blurred vision of things to come, much like Edge does in his vision, so we needn’t ask why the Seekers were camped so close to the Tower in the next game, or why so much of their time was spent researching drones. Lundi may have been the reason why the Seekers ended up so close to the Tower in the first place. After he became the leader of the Seekers, it’s more than possible that he led them there.
For the record, the dragon seen here does indeed resemble the Arm Wing. The main horn and the horns coming out of the side of its head bear a striking resemblance to the Arm Wing seen in Panzer Dragoon Saga, and indicate that it was probably a beta version. Even the Tower itself doesn’t seem to be exactly the same as what we see later. You could argue that it’s a different dragon and a different Tower altogether based on that, but it’s likely that this was a preview of future events that had not taken place yet, and we are catching a glimpse of things to come.
At this point in time you have to keep in mind that we are seeing the future because Panzer Dragoon Saga hadn’t even been released yet. But this is where this part of the normal endings in the Saturn game end. It ends with us seeing beams of light racing towards the camera through a tunnel carved with power veins unique to Ancient Age technology, but we never see what’s beyond the light.
The ending in Panzer Dragoon Orta tells a different story, however. In the uncut version, we see Azel for a brief second at the end of the vision where we would normally see the beams of light shooting down the tunnel, but this never made it into the original Saturn endings. I can only imagine why. Here we catch a glimpse of Azel when no one even knew who she was, except for the creators of course.
This part seems to have been cut from the original Saturn Panzer Dragoon Zwei endings which don’t show Azel at all, not even for a split second. The modified ending in Panzer Dragoon Orta was either the original uncut version of the ending, cut from the game late in its development, or a different version of the original that was edited later (for the release of Panzer Dragoon Orta) to show us what else Lundi saw. He only gives us scraps of knowledge in his diary almost as if on purpose in order to bait us into searching for the truth; he even admits to keeping the rest from us.
Drones are the keys to everything. Lundi must have passed the knowledge he was given on to the Seeker community which in turn learnt how to use ancient technology able to ensure Azel’s necessary survival much later. Perhaps this was the role that Lundi was meant to play all along.
It seems that either Lundi was shown Azel, or the deleted ending was meant to be a preview of things to come. Now we know why Lundi ended up exploring Uru to research drones after he became Skiad Ops Endow. Perhaps this is what led him to the Seekers in the first place. The reasons as to why the Zwei ending found in Panzer Dragoon Orta was changed to show Lundi seeing Azel and why the Drone Record, which gives us clues about the path Lundi walked down, were both never included in the original English copies of Panzer Dragoon Zwei and Panzer Dragoon Saga, respectively, begins to take an interesting shape.
